How we celebrated Mental Health Awareness Week at Trinity House

At ESco, we believe that looking after our mental health isn’t just a once-a-year thing – it’s something we weave into the fabric of who we are and how we work, every single day. But this week, for Mental Health Awareness Week, we turned the dial up a notch.

This year’s theme, Community, resonates deeply with us. Strong community networks offer practical and emotional assistance during difficult times, helping people build resilience and find purpose through shared experiences and mutual support.

We kicked things off by sharing something small but mighty with our team – a printed bookmark packed with helpful mental health resources. It’s the kind of thing that can slip between the pages of a planner or novel, quietly reminding you to pause, breathe, and reach out if you need to.

Alongside our bookmarks, our wonderful HR Manager, Charlotte, reshared details about our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) – a resource we’re proud to offer to all our team members, which is there to support our team through life’s ups, downs, and everything in between. Through the EAP, staff can access:

  • 24/7 confidential counselling
  • Mental health and wellbeing advice
  • Legal and financial guidance
  • Online resources and self-help tools

On Thursday 15 May, we turned Trinity House from purple to green as our team took part in Wear It Green Day. Whether it was a jumper, a pair of socks, or a simple pin, everyone wore something green to show their support for the Mental Health Foundation. It was a simple gesture with a big message – a visual reminder of hope, growth, and the importance of looking after our mental health. We encouraged our team to support the cause, and, more importantly, helped spark some valuable conversations.

We wrapped up the week in classic ESco style – heading down to our local pub for a well-earned drink and some proper soul-nourishing chatter. Because let’s be honest, some of the best conversations don’t happen in meetings – they happen when you’re off the clock, catching up, and laughing over chips and a cheeky pint. Spending time together outside the office helps us connect, reset, and remind each other that we’re human first, colleagues second.

According to the Priory, 1 in 4 adults in England experience a mental health problem each year – and I’d hazard a guess it’s actually higher than that, just not often talked about. Mental Health Awareness Week exists to highlight the importance of good mental health – and the role we can all play in shifting the dial.

We’re very much a people-first company. Our core values and our ‘focus’ reflect this: happy staff, happy clients, healthy profits – in that order. Mental Health Awareness Week gave us a great excuse to shine a light on something we genuinely care about.

Huge thanks to our HR Manager, Charlotte, and our Marketing Comms Manager, Megan, for championing this campaign – from all the thoughtful details to the bigger conversations. ESco is a very special team to be part of, and I’m proud of the culture we’re building together.

Louise McHale, Deputy Managing Director, ESco

At ESco, looking out for each other isn’t a trend or a tick-box exercise – it’s just what we do. Mental wellbeing is, and always will be, a shared priority. If you’d like to support this cause too, you can make a donation of any amount to the Mental Health Foundation here.

Let’s keep the conversation going.
